Despicable Me

I'll give it a  5.

Just coming off the Toy Story 3 animated movie high, I thought Despicable Me would be a fun movie to see.  I was disappointed right off the bat with opening scene depicting a bunch of loud, obnoxious and ignorant American tourists in the midst of the quiet, peaceful and dignified Middle East country of Egypt.  This, of course, had nothing to do with the plot of the movie, and I get very tired of movies painting Americans in this light, especially ones geared to children.

The movie overall was your basic story of evil villain, made that way by an unloving mother, adopts kids, falls in love with them and they transform him into a good guy.  It was predictable with a few laugh out loud moments.  It certainly doesn't live up to the entertainment value of Toy Story 3, in fact I almost fell asleep once or twice.

The little yellow minions were mildly entertaining, but not lovable.  Overall, it was a very average movie that definitely can wait until on DVD.
